The international school approached the team with one simple wish in mind - to enclose, brighten up the existing cluster area and transform it to a desirable environment for senior grade students to socialize.

Near the end of the school term, we walked into the dark and dim cluster area. On the rough washed granolith floor among the grey and beige wall tiles sat a deserted bench with a pile of school bags on top. The bell rang and a surge of school kids skipped across, landing in the adjacent classrooms behind the portals housing lockers in the periphery of the cluster area. Into the portal we looked closely. Closely looking into what drew students inside…

By the start of the new school term, something new spill out into the area from the portals.  Different combinations between the curve sofa benches and the rectangular portals result  a few different settings.  Along with the benches extending out, there comes a sharp yellow floor beneath and 49no. 1.5mx0.95m custom-made fibreglass reflector lampshades flying above, pouring in a soothing glow and dividing the uniform cluster area into zones with various happenings. Leaning back to the portals, one immediately feels the delicate texture of the wall composed of artwork created by Artwow Group, variations of pattern with the 2 chinese characters '弘立'  (name of school) are engraved to the wall by CNC milling. The book slots, the display cabinets, hotdesk, multimedia control station etc. provide an interface to an otherworldly space in the campus, awaiting students, teachers or staffs to decipher and discover…
